Well here it is the first week of summer vacation for the school. And I must confess I have enjoyed a couple of days of "summer vacation." But I'm back at it today. Here is my mid-week post, and I have to wonder as Christians have we compromised ourselves and God's Word?
Are
we as Christians walking on dangerous ground? Have we for the sake of
fitting in distorted the Gospel? According to an article written by
Bob Paulson, we are and have.
No
one wants to be hated, or looked on as some kind of religious nut. Because of
this many evangelicals are responding in a dangerous way. Even as
some claim to be followers of Christ Jesus, they ignore or out right
reject biblical teachings on homosexuality, fornication, marriage,
abortion, and even salvation through Christ Jesus alone. Why would they do
this? Because it is in our human nature to want to appease our
friends and neighbors. This has led to a serious watering down of the
Gospel, so much so that it is more like sinking sand than a solid
rock.
The
consequences are far-reaching, and they are contributing to a moral
decline in America today. Popular liberal evangelicals and even some
preachers tell Christians that if they accept abortion, same-sex
marriage, and other non-biblical practices that they will be accepted
by those around them. So out of fear of being labeled intolerant, or
"haters" many Christians are buying into theological
falsehoods.
So
what is the answer? It is this, we must combat the twisting and
tweaking of biblical truth. Christians must be ground in fundamental
doctrines, like creation, the fall, and redemption through the death,
burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. And as Christians we must
hold fast to these in an ever increasing hostile world.
As
Christians we have a message that can change the world. 16 "For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17
"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world,
but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17
We
should not let the world change us, instead we should be holding fast
to the God's Word. And maybe, just maybe changing the world.
