God Still Speaks

Good morning. Let's just jump right in this morning. Some would say that God is not a personal God, that He started up the universe and then backed off. This is a deism - belief in a God who created the world but has since remained indifferent to it. Gen 1:1-2 ~ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

However I would hold exception to this thought. There is to much evidence to the contrary. God walked and spoke to Adam and Eve in the garden. God called Abram out to "go out"and told him that He would create a great nation from his decedents.  God spoke to Joseph in dreams and He told Joseph the answers to dreams. God spoke to Mary through an angle and to her Joseph in a dream. God speaks to you and me through the Holy Spirit still.

"God is forever seeking to speak Himself to His creation," - A.W. Tozer. Folks, God is speaking, not God spoke, but God speaks. God fills all the earth with His voice and His voice makes the written Word of God all-powerful.

In our day and age we are more likely to try and explain away God's voice. "It is thunder," we say and then go on our way. God's voice still sounds and searches, it would seem we are just to busy to listen.

To a people caught in the tempest of the last great conflict, God says, "Be still, and know that I am God," (Psalm 46:10) God still says this, as if He means to tell us that our strength and safety lies not in noise but in quite times with God.

"The Bible will never be a living book to us until we are convinced that God is articulate in His universe." - A.W. Tozer
